Los Amigos Invisibles – Music Hall of Williamsburg: Friday, 3.9.12 – Event

Here we are, starting off a new year and this is the time to throw on those brand new gym sneakers and do your best from slipping into the bad habits that got you into this “chubby” situation in the first place. And while we are trying new things, I thought I would deviate from the usual SavageCity fare, to share one of my favorite-est (I’m aware that isn’t a word…but Imma work it out anyways) bands in the whole wide world….

Not only is this amazing Grammy winning band the most knock ’em dead, high-energy, explosive bands to watch live (one of the best live acts EVER, in my humble opinion) but they pretty easy on the eyes as well. Originally from Caracas, Venezuela; Los Amigos calls our very own Brooklyn home, when they reside in the states.

Los Amigos Invisibles play an electic mix of Pop, Disco House, Acid Jazz, & Funk with a current of latin rhythems. There is a little sumthang for everyone here. And with about 6 studio albums under there belt, performing at any and all festivals that matter and over 60 countries, these boys know how to command a stage.

Take a listen for yourself:

Los Amigos Invisibles will be performing at the Music Hall of Williamsburg

Where: 66 North 6th St, Brooklyn, NY 11211

When: Friday, March 9, 2012 @ 8:00pm

Cost: $22 advance, $25 day of show

Ear Hustlin’ – Tuesday, 12.27.11

what’s good savages,

So I am so very excited to introduce a new section to the SavageCity blog. This is the inaugural post of “Ear Hustlin”.

Here, I will be sharing music from locals that I harass whilst running the streets of this beautiful city I call home, New York City. My goal here is to get a solid diagnostic of what’s new, what’s hot, and what folks are slappin’ these days and share it with my fellow savages.

And real talk, I apologize if I spell your name wrong ahead of time. It’s nothing but love and THANK YOU for sharing a piece of your swagger with the world!

Sooo, here we go bitches!! This is who I came across today:

1) Name: Nicohlas from Brooklyn

Listening to: Meek Mill – Dreamchaser Mixtape

Listen here:

Download here: http://www.datpiff.com/Meek-Mill-Dreamchasers-mixtape.256292.html

2) Name: Urlhan from Long Island City

Listening to: Young Jeezy ft. Nas – My President is Black

Listen here:

3) Name: Rob from UWS

Listening to: New York City Tipico Mix

Listen here: (since I wasn’t able to get an exact track listing, enjoy some other merengue!)

I was pleasantly surprised by what folks are knockin’. It is true when they say, New Yorkers set trends. Meek Mill’s mixtape is slappin, and I would def go download it via the link provided above, if you dig hip hop. I probably wouldn’t have discovered it had it not been for Nicholas, so THANK YOU! Hope ya’ll got turned on to some new ish as well.

So there you have it, Ear Hustlin’s first post! Thank you again to everyone that allowed me to harass them during their daily commute and I will be back soon with more discoveries.

stay well, savages…..

Hardfest NYC – Bloody Beetroots, James Murphy, Proxy, Eye – 12.10.11 – Event Review

OMG. There are NO WORDS to explain how good last Saturday’s Hardfest NYC was. The show was definitely one of the best I have ever been to in NYC!

This was my first time seeing James Murphy from the now broken up, LCD Soundsystem. I’ve always heard that they were a group that needed to be seen live to fully appreciate their splendor, after seeing James Murphy, I can see why. I find it easy to decipher when a DJ is more than they what many refer to as just a “laptop operator” but  rather a real musician. He was mixing songs but there was obvious musical intent behind it.

After Murphy played, Bloody Beetroots took the stage and my goodness, they certainly made their presence known and the place just exploded! I always love being right in the middle of a pit when the crowd moves in unison. I caught some great video of their opener and some key tracks. Enjoy below:

If either of these acts are around again, please do yourself a favor and go see them live!! Hope everyone is having a good week and I shall see you on the dance floor tonight at the Diplo show!! Yeeeee!!

Circus Records – UKF Winter Mixtape – Free Download

hello kiddos,

Circus is one of my go-to labels for the best of UK dubstep. And if you are anything like me, you need a constant stream of new musical ammo to continue on with your days. Awesomely enough, they happen to put out free mixtapes via their website or newsletter for download.

The newest release is a UKF Dubstep Winter Mixtape by Circus Records. The mixtape is a tight 20 minutes, perfect and to the point…a concise 10 track mixtape. My favorite track would be at 7:48 – where Roksonix’s “Madness”, makes it’s debut. I’ve heard so many versions of this track, but this has to be my favorite. The heavy bass drop is at 8:12, where the track explodes into a zaney, almost halloween-like mania. Oh and the mixtape just gets more wacky from there! Download it and be sure to get down with the get-down. Enjoy!

Sign up to the Circus Records email list to get this mix for free: http://ukstreetteam.com/signmeup/circus_records

Dillon Francis – Girls & Boys @ Webster Hall: Friday, 12.16.11 -Nightlife/Event

So I am SOOOO excited that another wacked-out mastermind from the Mad Decent label will be in NYC in the next couple of weeks. DILLON FRANCIS will be at one of my favorite weeklies, “Girls & Boys” @ Webster Hall, Friday 12.16.11.

Tickets are $15, Doors open @ 10pm. However, knowing how shit goes down at Webster Hall, showing up fashionably late is totally acceptable as well. You know I still run on Cali time! oops….

So to give you lil savages a taste, here is Dillon Francis’ new video for I.D.G.A.F.O.S. Its a pretty funny video, especially ’cause Dillon is going H.A.M. like LITERALLY, ham – the other white meat. Also, the fact that cutie-patootie, Skrillex, makes an appearance never hurt nobody.

This song itself, kind of makes me want to spin around in circles while running around a carousal in a playground!! Genre wise, this track has some dubstep elements, as well as Moonbamton, dance/electro, and 100% PARTY YOUR ASS OFF!

hope to see you lil savages on the dance floor!

Fitz & The Tantrums – Special Event – Irving Plaza 12.5.11

hello my lil savages,

Today, I was lucky enough to be invited to a very special event featuring one of my newest favorite bands, Fitz & The Tantrums. Originally from LA, Fitz is a killer neo-soul band with explosive stage presence.

The special event was held at the gorgeous Irving Plaza. LiveNation and Hertz sponsored the event to announce their new partnership, ‘Movin’ with Music’. Fitz played a quick 3 song set, which they absolutely slaughtered! It was so bizarre to be gettin’ down to a great band at 2pm in the afternoon but what can I say, that’s the freelancer’s life!!

I was able to snag some video of “MoneyGrabber” via my iPhone. Take a look and enjoy! Talk to you soon savages!

check out Fitz & The Tantrums via their website and FaceBook and signup for their mailing list for concert dates and free downloads:
